IGL3: 4m to 12m Grass Buffer Strip on Improved Grassland

What is IGL3?

IGL3 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £235.00 per year for 4m to 12m grass buffer strip on improved grassland.

What do I need to do?

* Establish and maintain a grass strip 4m to 12m wide (on average) on the edge of improved grassland.

* The strip must buffer existing landscape or heritage features (e.g., hedgerows, stone walls, woodland, ditches, historic features) or trackways/fence lines linking habitats.

* This buffer strip must be in addition to any regulatory requirements.

* Maintain an intact grass sward throughout the year; grazing is permitted if it does not cause tracks, compaction, or poaching.

* Do not cut for hay/silage, use for regular vehicular access/storage, apply fertilisers/manures, or use pesticides (except for spot treating injurious weeds, invasive non-native species, nettles, or bracken).
