SAM2: Multi-species winter cover
What is SAM2?
SAM2 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £129 per year for multi-species winter cover.
What do I need to do?
* Establish and maintain a well-established multi-species cover crop over winter months.
* Sow a mix with at least 2 species from brassicae, legumes, grass/cereals, or herbs.
* Do not use legumes on peaty soil (20%+ organic matter to 40cm+ depth).
* Ensure the crop is well-established with leafy vegetation to protect soil surface for winter.
* Do not mechanically apply fertilisers or manures.
What evidence do I need?
You should keep evidence to show what you’ve done to complete this action. This will help if it’s not clear that you’ve completed the action in a way that could reasonably be expected to achieve this action’s aim. You must supply this evidence if we ask for it.
