PRF1: Variable rate application of nutrients

What is PRF1?

PRF1 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £27 per year for variable rate application of nutrients.

What do I need to do?

* Apply all major nutrients across the land using variable rate application (VRA) equipment.

* The VRA equipment must be either pre-programmed with a ‘variable rate file’ (using data from zonal soil/crop testing or remote sensing) or linked to a crop reflectance sensor.

* Ensure VRA equipment automatically varies the application rate of major nutrients to achieve the action’s aim.

* Major nutrients include nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and magnesium (Mg) from manufactured fertilisers, solid manures, slurry, or digestate.

* Zonal soil testing data must cover a minimum of P, K, Mg, and pH, and be less than 5 years old.

What evidence do I need?

  • You must keep evidence to show what you’ve done to complete this action, such as:

invoices for zonal soil testing and analysis

the ‘variable rate file’ uploaded to the VRA equipment

an ‘as applied’ VRA record at a land parcel level

field operations at a land parcel level and associated invoices

How much does PRF1 pay?

PRF1 pays £27 per year.
