IPM3: Companion Crop on Arable and Horticultural Land
What is IPM3?
IPM3 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £55 per year for companion crop on arable and horticultural land.
What do I need to do?
* Establish a companion crop on land entered into this action, growing with the main arable or horticultural crop.
The companion crop must be managed to achieve the action's aim and intended purpose, but does not need to be present for the full growing period.
Establishment methods include trap cropping, inter-cropping, or undersowing.
* Avoid deep-rooted companion crops on land with historic or archaeological features identified in your SFI HEFER.
* Do not use legumes as companion crops on peaty soil to prevent peat damage.
What evidence do I need?
You should keep evidence to show what you’ve done to complete this action. This will help if it’s not clear that you’ve completed the action in a way that could reasonably be expected to achieve this action’s aim. You must supply this evidence if we ask for it.
This evidence could include photographs and other documentation to show what you’ve done to complete this action. It could also include field operations at a land parcel level and associated invoices. If you choose to take photographs, read the guidance on how to take photographic evidence (annex A).
