What is UP5?

UP5 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £181 per year for moorland re-wetting supplement.

What do I need to do?

* Maintain grip blocks to prevent breaches and ensure proper water flow and soaking into the ground.

* In re-profiled areas, ensure bare peat has stabilised , vegetation has established , channel water levels are maintained at ground surface , and channels are actively silting up behind grip blocks.

What evidence do I need?

  • Agreement holders will need to keep the following records and supply them on request:

records of all management work including grazing, grip blocking and other re-wetting work

any bank statements, receipted invoices, consents or permissions connected with the work

inspection reports and photographs of grips and blocks for your annual claim

records of maintenance work done to meet the requirements

How much does UP5 pay?

UP5 pays £181 per year.

Which land is eligible?

Available for Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier Only: * with option UP3 - Management of moorland * if a peat restoration programme has been started or completed
