What is WN4?

WN4 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £13.63 per year for ditch, dyke and rhine creation.

What do I need to do?

* Create a channel 70cm to 100cm deep with varied depths and a shallow, wet marginal fringe.

* Ensure bank slopes vary along the ditch, mostly between 30 and 45 degrees.

* Place excavated material on top of the bank or in the adjacent field, avoiding hollows, low areas, and historic/archaeological features.

* Spread spoil thinly to prevent spoil bank formation.

* create a channel between 70 centimetres (cm) and 100cm deep, creating a variety of depths in it and grading to a shallow, wet marginal fringe

What evidence do I need?

  • You must keep photographs of the completed work and provide with your claim

  • You must also keep and provide on request:

receipted invoices or bank statements where a receipted invoice is unavailable

photographs of the site before works start

* any advice, consents or permissions connected with the works
