WD3: Woodland edges on arable land
What is WD3?
WD3 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £428.00 per year for woodland edges on arable land.
What do I need to do?
* Ensure a strip of scrub and grass mosaic develops through natural regeneration between arable land and existing woodland, up to 6m wide.
* Do not use pesticides (except for spot-treating injurious weeds), fertilisers, or manures.
* Do not cultivate within 6m of the woodland edge.
* Do not cut during the bird breeding season (1 March to 31 August) and do not cut more than a third of shrubby growth annually.
What evidence do I need?
Where there is uncertainty about whether the aims of the options have been delivered, we will take into account any records or evidence you may have kept demonstrating delivery of the aims of the option. This will include any steps you’ve taken to follow the recommended management set out above. It’s your responsibility to keep such records if you want to rely on these to support your claim.

Available for Countryside Stewardship Mid Tier and Higher Tier Only on arable land immediately adjacent to predominantly native or ancient semi-natural woodlands. On historic or archaeological features
