TE17: Tree surgery for veteran trees
What is TE17?
TE17 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £488 per year for tree surgery for veteran trees.
What do I need to do?
* Create a tree management plan with a written assessment from a veteran tree specialist, detailing intended outcomes, long-term health maintenance, and subsequent management.
* Agree the plan with your Natural England or Forestry Commission adviser.
* Use a professionally qualified arboriculturist to carry out the tree surgery according to the plan and agreed timescale.
* Remove secondary growth from around veteran trees and place cut material in an agreed location.
* Do not stack removed material against the tree , cut limbs more than necessary for safe handling, remove cut material (including dead wood and dying branches) from the area around the tree, burn cut material, prune more than necessary, remove epicormic shoots, or damage tree roots.
What evidence do I need?
You must keep the following records and supply them on request:
your tree management plan
receipted invoices, consents or permissions connected with the work
photographs of each tree
photographs of the completed work
