SP9: Threatened species supplement
What is SP9?
SP9 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £204 per year for threatened species supplement.
What do I need to do?
* Use this supplement in combination with a land management option where at least one threatened species is present or you can manage the site for reintroduction/re-colonisation.
* For Higher Tier , management work requires written support from a Natural England specialist.
* For Mid Tier , written RPA approval is needed if supporting brown hairstreak butterfly or corn bunting , unless for turtle doves or stone curlew.
* Turtle Dove : Use with AB12 or OP3 (summer supplementary feeding) and AB11 with BE3 or WD7. Land must be in specified priority counties. Minimum 2 feeding areas (200kg feed), maximum 4 feeding areas per 250ha of agreement land.
* Brown Hairstreak : Use with BE3 Management of hedgerows and include a Wild Pollinator and Farm Wildlife Package.
What evidence do I need?
Where there is uncertainty about whether the aims of the options have been delivered, we will take into account any records or evidence you may have kept demonstrating delivery of the aims of the option. This will include any steps you’ve taken to follow the recommended management set out above. It’s your responsibility to keep such records if you want to rely on these to support your claim.

Which land is eligible?
It is available for Countryside Stewardship Mid Tier and Higher Tier in combination with a land management option where either: at least one threatened species is present on the site you can manage the site to create the right conditions to allow the reintroduction, re-colonisation or range extension of a named priority species For Higher Tier only, the management work must have written support from a Natural England specialist.
