What is HEF1?

HEF1 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £5 per year for maintain weatherproof traditional farm or forestry buildings.

What do I need to do?

* Complete a visual building maintenance assessment annually and carry out necessary routine maintenance and minor repairs on a ‘like for like’ basis using traditional materials.

* Complete a visual building wildlife assessment annually, retain existing features used by bats, owls, and kestrels, and install boxes if required.

* If bat activity is identified, get advice from a licensed ecological consultant and comply with legal requirements before carrying out work.

* Produce a photographic record of the building's condition at the start, and written or photographic records of assessments and completed repairs.

* Do not sell or convert the building to non-agricultural/forestry use during the 3-year duration.
