What is FG12?

FG12 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £489.90 per year for wooden field gate.

What do I need to do?

* Construct the gate from timber in a traditional local style or to specified dimensions.

* Hang gates separately from adjoining fence lines, not using the hanging post as an end strainer.

* Set gate posts at least 900mm into the ground with concrete (450mm x 450mm x 600mm deep) or 1.1m deep without concrete (soil compacted in 150mm layers).

* If installing wooden wings, they must be on both sides of the gate , each with at least 3 wooden rails (at least 38mm x 87mm) fixed between 2 posts (at least 100mm diameter half round, 1.8m long, sunk 0.7m deep), and not fixed to the gate's hanging post.

* construct the gate out of timber in a style that’s traditional to the local area

  • You must also keep and provide on request:

any consents or permissions connected with the work

receipted invoices or bank statements where a receipted invoice is unavailable

* photographs of the proposed location for the gates or wings before work starts
