The compliance gap matrix

Written by Sven Poppelmann

The Gap Matrix is a dense, scannable grid showing every farm in your organisation as a row and every scheme type as a column. It is designed for a 30-second portfolio compliance check.

Opening the matrix

From the sidebar choose Oversight > Matrix.

Reading the grid

Each cell shows the completion status of one scheme on one farm:

  • Green dot - complete

  • Amber dot - in progress

  • Red dot - missing or overdue

  • Grey - not applicable to that farm

The right-most column shows each farm's overall health percentage, colour-coded (90+ green, 70-90 amber, below 70 red).

Footer row and summary

A footer row at the bottom shows the completion percentage per scheme - useful for spotting that, for example, "[[company/red-tractor|Red Tractor]] is at 50% across the portfolio". A summary banner at the top shows [[company/filtered|filtered]] farms vs total, average health and visible scheme count.

Filtering and the year selector

  • Farm filter - checkboxes or search to focus on a subset of farms

  • Scheme filter - multi-select to show only the schemes you care about

  • Year selector - pick the scheme year to display (e.g. "Showing declaration status for scheme year 2024")

Navigating from the grid

  • Click a farm row to open the farm

  • Click a scheme column header to open scheme details

  • Click a cell to drill into that specific scheme on that specific farm

Tips

  • Sort mentally by the right-most column - the lowest health percentages are where you should spend time

  • A red column footer means your team has a process gap on that scheme, not necessarily a problem on every farm

  • Use the year selector to compare year-on-year improvement trends
