Most users only view the farm map, but the map is also a full editor. You can draw new parcels and hedgerows, [[company/group|group]] features into fields, edit geometry and overlay your own custom maps.
Opening the editor
Go to the farm Map. The drawing and editing tools are available from the toolbar; what is enabled depends on your role.
Drawing modes
Draw hedgerow - create a new line feature by clicking points along the hedge
Draw parcel - create a new polygon by clicking points around the boundary
Create field - select existing parcels, land covers or hedgerows to [[company/group|group]] them into a field
A banner across the top of the map shows the current mode and a short instruction (e.g. "Drawing Hedgerow - click points to draw").
Editing geometry
Switch to Edit hedgerow mode to drag the points of an existing hedgerow. The same approach works for parcels. Save changes from the toolbar to commit them.
Custom map layers
You can create, view, edit and export custom layers - for example a soil-type overlay, a contractor task plan or a heritage features layer. Layers can be toggled on and off without losing the underlying drawing.
Other useful overlays
Scheme markers - colour-coded markers for actions and options
Rotational year selector - see which crop or option was on each parcel in a given year
[[company/farm-walk|Farm walk]] GPS tracks - replay walks captured on the mobile app
Keyboard shortcuts and deep links
A query string of ?featureId= takes you straight to a single feature with the map zoomed in
Pusher updates apply other team members' changes in real time without needing to refresh
Tips
Click slowly when drawing hedgerows - too many points clutter the map and slow down rendering
Use Create Field to mirror how you actually farm - one record per field, not per parcel
Custom layers are a good place to put information that doesn't belong to any single scheme (heritage assets, footpaths, drainage)
