Creating and publishing farm documents

Written by Sven Poppelmann

Farmwalk's Documents area lets you write farm documents - SOPs, risk assessments, policies and operational notes - directly inside the app, then publish them to the vault and share them with the team or contractors.

Opening Documents

Open a farm and go to the Documents page. You'll see every document grouped by scope - Health & Safety, General, Compliance, Operations - with status, version, category, responsible person, review date and last updated.

Finding a document

Use the search bar to filter by title, responsible person or category. Click any row to open the read-only viewer.

Creating a document

  1. Click New Document

  2. Enter a title

  3. Pick a scope - Health & Safety, General, Compliance or Operations

  4. Pick a category (the available options change with the scope)

  5. Optionally choose a responsible person and a review date

  6. Optionally choose a template from the right-hand panel - this pre-fills the metadata and content

  7. Click Create

Editing

The editor is a full WYSIWYG with auto-save (5 seconds after you stop typing) and a Cmd+S shortcut. The right-hand sidebar lets you change details, see who created and last updated the document, view the version, and access AI Review.

Publishing

When the document is ready, click Publish. This:

  • Renders a PDF and adds it to the vault

  • Promotes the document state from Draft to Published

  • Increments the version number

Viewing and sharing

The viewer renders the document in A4 page format with a metadata bar (scope, category, responsible person, review date, last updated). Use Download PDF for a copy or Share to create a shareable link.

Tips

  • Use templates - they save time and keep your documents consistent

  • Set a review date so the document is flagged when it next needs checking

  • Publish once you are happy; future edits create new versions
