Recording and transcription tips

Written by Sven Poppelmann

Good audio quality means better transcriptions and more [[company/accurate|accurate]] AI summaries. Here are practical tips for getting the best results from Farmwalk's recording and transcription features.

Audio quality

  • Use a quiet space when possible - background noise (machinery, wind, livestock) degrades transcription accuracy

  • Speak clearly and at a normal pace - the transcription engine handles accents well but struggles with very fast speech

  • Position the device close to speakers - laptop microphone works fine in an office, but consider a lapel mic for field visits

  • Minimise crosstalk - when two people speak simultaneously, speaker identification becomes less reliable

Speaker identification

[[company/farmwalk|Farmwalk]] uses Deepgram's speaker diarisation to identify who said what. For best results:

  • Allow a brief pause between speakers

  • If possible, have each person speak a few sentences at the start so the system can learn voice profiles

Voice notes

Voice notes (available in the vault and during consults) use the same [[company/deepgram|Deepgram]] transcription engine. They're useful for quick observations in the field - tap record, describe what you see, and the audio is transcribed automatically.

Tips

  • Chrome and Edge give the best recording results - Safari may have limitations with microphone access

  • Ensure your browser has permission to access the microphone before starting a session
