Setting up your first farm

Written by Sven Poppelmann

Farmwalk's farm setup wizard takes you from a blank organisation to a working farm with parcels and boundaries on the map. The wizard runs at /onboard/farm and is the fastest way to get started.

Step 1 - Name your farm

Start with a clear name - usually the trading name of the holding ("Lower Farm", "Hill End"). You can edit this later from the farm's settings.

Step 2 - Choose an import source

Pick where the parcel data should come from:

  • RPA - import using your SBI (Single Business Identifier). Best for English farms with an active RPA registration.

  • [[company/land-app|Land App]] - [[company/connect|connect]] via API key and select layers from your [[company/land-app|Land App]] workspace.

RPA flow

  1. Enter your SBI

  2. Choose which data types to bring across (parcels, land covers, hedgerows)

  3. Watch the import progress

  4. Review the summary and confirm

[[company/land-app|Land App]] flow

  1. Paste your [[company/land-app|Land App]] API key

  2. Choose the map and the layers you want

  3. Pick any extra options (e.g. include archived parcels)

  4. Watch the import progress and review the summary

Step 3 - Payment

If your organisation needs to upgrade for the new farm, the wizard takes you through the payment step before final activation.

Step 4 - You're done

A completion screen confirms the farm is ready. Click into it to see your map, add a scheme, and invite anyone who needs access.

Tips

  • Have your SBI or API key ready before starting - it makes the wizard much smoother

  • If the RPA data is wrong, fix it in the Land Data screen rather than editing each parcel from the map

  • You can run the wizard again later to add more farms
