SFS: Welsh Sustainable Farming Scheme

Written by Sven Poppelmann

The Sustainable Farming Scheme (SFS) is Wales's replacement for the Basic Payment Scheme, rewarding farmers for universal sustainable actions and optional additional activities. [[company/farmwalk|Farmwalk]] helps you manage your SFS agreement, track actions across your farm, and maintain evidence for payment claims.

Setting up your SFS agreement

  1. Go to your farm's Schemes page

  2. Click Add Scheme and select SFS

  3. Enter your agreement reference and payment year

  4. Add your Universal Actions and any optional activities

What's inside

  • Overview - Agreement summary, payment breakdown, and compliance status

  • Universal Actions - Track the mandatory baseline actions required for all SFS participants

  • Ffermio Bro - If applicable, manage capital grant items within your SFS agreement

  • Evidence - Upload and link evidence to specific actions

  • Payments - View your payment tiers and claim schedule

  • Timeline - Chronological view of actions and milestones

  • Reports - Generate compliance and evidence reports

Tips

  • Universal Actions apply to your whole farm - ensure all land parcels are accounted for

  • Evidence should be uploaded throughout the year, not just at claim time

  • If your farm is in a National Park or designated landscape, check whether Ffermio Bro capital grants apply
