CWT3: Manage ditches of high environmental value
What is CWT3?
CWT3 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £38.00 per year for manage ditches of high environmental value.
What do I need to do?
* Manage ditch lengths rotationally by methods agreed with your adviser, normally between September and March to avoid disturbing wildlife.
* Leave one side or sections of the ditch unmanaged during any operation as a refuge for species.
* Spread silt and vegetation cuttings thinly in the adjacent field, avoiding hollows, low areas, or historic/archaeological features.
* Allow bankside vegetation to naturally regenerate , topping only to control injurious weeds.
* Maintain ditch water levels to a suitable depth for the ditch and adjacent habitats.
What evidence do I need?
You must keep evidence to show what you have done to complete this action. If it’s not clear that you have done this action in a way that could reasonably be expected to achieve its aim, the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) may ask for this evidence.
You must supply the evidence if they ask for it, including:
field operations at a parcel level
associated invoices
* photographs relevant to the action
