CWS2 is an action under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) scheme. It pays £275.00 per year for manage and restore plantations on ancient woodland sites (paws) supplement.

What do I need to do?

  • Work with your Forestry Commission woodland officer to agree on mandatory activities to achieve the action's aim, which will be set out in your agreement document.

  • Where relevant, activities may include:

* Reducing conifer or non-native trees

* Identifying, mapping, and tagging veteran trees

* Managing woodlands through coppicing, thinning, or felling

  • You must keep evidence to show what you have done to complete this action. If it’s not clear that you have done this action in a way that could reasonably be expected to achieve its aim, the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) may ask for this evidence. You must supply the evidence if they ask for it.

Which land is eligible?

Same as base action. Use [company/natural-england|Natural England]]’s [Ancient Woodland Inventory to find plantations on ancient woodland sites. Ask your Forestry Commission woodland officer if you are not sure. You will agree with your Forestry Commission woodland officer what management activities you will carry out using this supplement. It could include some or all of the following activities.
