Countryside Stewardship (CS) agreements include a range of environmental options that deliver benefits for wildlife, water quality, flood management, and historic environment. Farmwalk helps you manage these diverse requirements and track evidence across your holding.

Setting up your CS agreement

  1. Navigate to Schemes and select Add New Scheme

  2. Choose Countryside Stewardship (CS)

  3. Enter your agreement number and validity dates

  4. Add your selected options (e.g., AB1, GS4, SW6)

CS option types

CS options fall into different categories:

  • Arable options - AB1 (nectar flower mix), AB8 (flower rich margins)

  • Grassland options - GS4 (legume rich swards), GS2 (permanent grassland low inputs)

  • Water options - SW1 (riparian management), SW6 (winter cover crops)

  • Historic options - SP5 (supplementary feeding), HS2 (taking historic environment into account)

  • Tree/woodland options - WD1 (woodland improvement), WD2 (woodland creation)

Linking options to parcels

  1. Each CS option must be assigned to specific parcels

  2. Select the option and click Assign to Parcels

  3. Choose the relevant land areas from your map

  4. Ensure total areas match your CS application

  5. Consider overlapping options on the same parcel

CS evidence requirements

Different option types require different evidence:

  • Management evidence - Photos and records of prescribed management

  • Input restrictions - Records showing compliance with input limits

  • Timing evidence - Documentation of work carried out in required periods

  • Establishment evidence - Proof of successful establishment for new features

Monitoring and inspection preparation

  • Keep detailed records of all management activities

  • Photograph important management events (cutting, grazing, establishment)

  • Maintain input records (fertilizer, pesticide applications)

  • Document any changes to management or circumstances

Tips

  • Review your CS handbook regularly for specific requirements

  • Set up calendar reminders for time-sensitive activities

  • Take photos before and after management operations

  • Keep receipts and records for any materials or services used
